REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--September 14, 2010 -- (BUSINESS WIRE)-- Tech Channel Index (TCI) reported today that technology channel sales, including computers and related products, consumer electronics, and IT hardware, in Western Europe weakened during Q2 2010 by five percent compared to 2009, while sales in Eastern Europe grew by over 30 percent in the same period.
Other regions of EMEA were mixed. Sales in Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain (PIIGS) worsened, while sales remained flat in Scandinavian and Middle-East regions. Further, Eastern Europe continues to outperform its Western European neighbors through the first six weeks of Q3 2010, with an overall three percent sales growth vs. the same period in 2009, excluding currency translation.
Channel inventory levels in Q2 2010 were not uniform across Europe. TCI data indicated significant inventory excesses in Ireland, Turkey, France and Germany, while Russia, Poland, Finland, Spain and Switzerland had leaner inventory levels compared with 2009.
